About us

MTT Multantiv Oy corporation is a privately owned company incorporated in 2008 to apply, promote and commercialize certain science based methods of multivariate calibration and measurement. MTT Multantiv has the right to license several patents describing hardware, software, and process improvements in this field, including US Patent 6,629,041 which describes methods of science-based calibration (SBC). The company is located in Oulu, Finland.

MTT Multantiv is a start-up out of the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and more specifically, out of its Optical Instrument Center (OIC). With more than 60 full-time experts, an average time-on-the-job of over 10 years, and a customer list comprising major international automation and manufacturing companies, OIC is one of the largest groups worldwide dedicated to the development of optical measurement instruments for industrial applications. The focus is on on-line process applications.

The science based method of calibration has been used in OIC since 2001. Initially, the main drivers behind its use were

  1. the significant reduction in R&D time and expense that can be realized when developing new, custom optical instruments and
  2. the possibility to build (and later cheaply calibrate) multivariate instruments for applications in which, previously, instruments could not be calibrated, e.g., in smoothly running industrial processes without much variation. Other advantages of SBC like the reduction in cost of calibration and the improved long-term robustness were also realized for customers.
